Spin art is a classic activities that kids LOVE. We often use a simple battery operated spin art machine that we picked up at the thrift store. However, either a salad spinner or our DIY spin art machine are always fun too. Ready for a simple Halloween spin on a classic craft.

To create a spider web, you will need white paint, black paper and a spin art machine.

The kiddos love squeezing paint into the machine and waiting for the magic to happen.

The joy of spin art is that each attempt is different and unique.

These are so quick to create, that we had a whole table full of spider webs waiting to dry in a matter of moments. The kids LOVED it! We ran out of black paper before the kids were ready to move on to something else.

I think our next Halloween party needs a simple spin art spider web garland.

Masking Tape Mummy

Halloween Craft For Kids ~ simple Masking Tape Mummy

Ready for a super easy Halloween craft? Best part…it is totally MESS FREE! I have a couple kiddos that love creating with tape, so I try to incorporate it into our crafts often. I’m always amazed at how long a simple roll of tape can hold a little ones attention.

We used regular masking tape and black construction paper for our Mummies. I love using masking tape with kids. It’s cheap, easy to work with and we almost always have a roll on hand. Also check out these adorable Tape Mummies from No Time for Flash Cards. Love them!

The kids haphazardly covered their black paper with strips of masking tape.

The kids loved this step.

I helped the kids trace the Mummy template onto their tape creation and cut it out. We the Gingerbread Man Template that we used to create our Paper Strip Mummy. Thanks Gift of Curiosity for making such wonderful printables!

You could add a dot for the eyes, but I love how they look just tucked under a piece of tape.

Easy Pumpkin Crafts for Kids ~ Perfect for Fall

Fall is all about pumpkins in our house. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin carving, pumpkin activities, pumpkin crafts for kids…well you get the idea. We like pumpkins! This super simple invitation to create only takes 5 minutes. Love that!

We used a similar process when we created our Paper Plate Carrots and Paper Strip Mummies. Since it was such a hit the first few times, we decided to create a set of pumpkins. Ready to put those cutting skills to the test?

All you need is a paper plate, orange and green construction paper, scissors and glue.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!

This simple 5 min craft is perfect for setting out on a table as an invitation to create. Have all the supplies set out for when the creative mood strikes. We do lots of simple 5 minute crafts/activities, and the kids love them.

With the addition of black paper you could turn these into adorable little Jack-o-lanterns. We made an even simpler version last year using orange paper plates. Check out our EASIEST Paper Plate Pumpkins ever! They are basically mess free.

Paper Strip Mummy ~ Halloween Craft Ideas for kids

Halloween is right around the corner. Every year it seems to sneak up on me, leaving me scrambling to get ready for the holiday. That’s what makes these little Mummies so perfect. They require little prep and basically no time to create, making these little Mummies one of our favorite Halloween Craft Ideas. Love that!

This simple craft is fun to create, while working on scissor and fine motor skills.

Our little Mummies use this adorable Gingerbread Man Template as the base. Yep you read right…Gingerbread Man. It totally worked great, plus I didn’t have to draw anything. Simple click and print. Thanks Katie from Gift of Curiosity for creating such AMAZING printables. I also love her Pumpkin Outline Template (but thats for a different project). Paper Strip Mummies ~ the easiest instructions ever:

Simply print out the template, trace it onto black paper and cut it out.

Encourage your kiddos cut strips of paper to use as Mummy wrapping.

Finally…glue, glue and more glue.

Voila, you have a spooky, scary and oh so cute Mummy.

Are you planning a Halloween party? Then you might want to check out our simple DIY Mummy Cards. Instead of paper strips, we used burlap to create a simple DIY stamp. Burlap makes a perfect gauze like imprint.

Once once our little Mummies dried, I trimmed the rough edges. This step is totally not necessary, it is up to you which way your kiddos prefer their little Mummy. These little mummies are adorable either way.

How cute! The little peeking eyes make me smile.

I love the kids different style…skinny haphazard strips vs thick methodical strips of paper. Love them both!

Giant Ghost Bubbles ~ Homemade GAK recipe

DIY GAK Recipe ~ Simple Play Recipe for Giant Bubbles

My kids made a happy recipe accident today and created the most amazing Giant Ghost Bubbles!. They have been begging to make Silly Putty, Gak or Slime for a while. I kept putting it off because I thought we didn’t have all the ingredients. Well guess what the kids found in the basement today; a bottle of liquid starch. Love it!

They came running up the stairs singing in a voice that only kids can, that they could finally make Homemade Silly Putty. I was finishing up another project, so I told them to start without me. Harmless right, it is only 2 ingredients! Well with all the excitement and 3 recipe readers, they created a slightly different version which was pretty amazing!

Giant Ghost Bubble Recipe:

1 1/2 cup white Elmers school glue
1 cup liquid starch
1/4 cup water (not necessary, but it worked great for us)
Optional food coloring ~ since we were making ghost bubbles, we decided to just leave ours white.
Drinking straws are needed to blow our Giant Ghost Bubbles

Pour the glue into your bowl and then SLOWLY add the starch. I can’t stress slowly enough. You are welcome to mix with a spoon, but I promise you are missing out on half the fun! Let the kids dive right in for some gooey sensory fun and mix the batch with their hands.

Once the GAK like consistency is reached…STOP. There is no need to add the full amount of starch. You are looking for a super stretchy consistency. Try adding different amounts of starch until you find the constancy that you find works. Not sure why, but each time we make GAK the quantity of starch needed is just slightly different.

How to make giant GAK bubbles:

Once you have made the perfect GAK mixture…let the fun begin. It is perfect for stretching, letting slide through your fingers and for making Giant Ghost Bubbles. To make a bubble…hold a ball of GAK in your hand, stick a straw into the middle of the mixture and gently blow. Seriously it is that easy!

Here are a few tips if you are struggling with mixing your gooey mixture to the right consistency. If it is lumpy after you’ve added the liquid starch, then simply let it rest. You can watch it “melt” together right in the bowl. After a few moments try working it together again. If it is still not working into the consistency that you would like, try adding a little bit more glue. Although not too much, you are looking for a Gak like consistency not a firm putty.

GAK Tips and Tricks:

If it gets on your clothes, white vinegar should dissolve it.
Store it in an airtight container or Ziploc Bag for weeks! I love how long this gooey mixture lasts!
If your mixture is a bit stringy, slimy or lumpy then play with the ratios a little bit. Try adding a little more glue. It may take a bit of mixing and playing to get the right consistency but I promise it is worth it!
If you are adding food coloring, mix it into the glue BEFORE you add the starch. Or you could end up with beautifully colored hands.

One of my sweet friends posted their version of GAK Bubbles and I LOVE them. Stephanie always has some of the best play recipes. Although, don’t be surprised if you find yourself there for a few hours. Yep Twodaloo is that awesome, you will totally loose track of time devouring all the cool kids activities. Love it!
