Number Matching Game for Toddlers

Toddler Car Parking Lot ~ Number matching Game

We have been working on number recognition recently.  What better way to learn, than a hands on activity!  I have a little one who love cars.  He loves lining them up, sorting them by color and simple zooming them all around the house.  There are a number of fun car parking lot ideas out there, but I love this one by B-Inspired Mama.  We didn’t have a large box, so we used paper instead.

You could easily use a yellow paper plate, but we my kiddos love to paint.  Plus, I love being able to use what we have on hand.  Who knew that Thomas the Train desert plates could look so cute.  We simply turned the plates over and painted the backside.

Easy Paper Plate Chick ~ Preschool Easter CraftsOnce the plates were dry, the kids glued on all the little bits that turned these plates into the most adorable little chicks ever.  Googly eyes, triangle nose, feather wings and of course extra long accordion folded legs.  Love it!

Did you spend hours as a kid creating simple folded paper fans?  I totally did.  Now my kids are constantly stealing paper to make their own fans.

I am so excited to share our latest Paper Plate Chick with you.  Did you see our glittery Princess Chick we shared the other day?  The girls are in LOVE with them.  Today we decided to make another chick, although this time we used yarn instead of glitter.  The texture of the yarn feathers is so adorable!

The kids painted their plates with yellow paint.  We love to use what we have on hand to make our crafts.  These little chicks were created using left over Thomas the Train desert plates.  Shhhhh…don’t tell anyone;)

While the kids were waiting for the paint to dry, they cut lots of little strips of yarn.  They also cut the orange paper into feet, a beak and wings (strips of paper looped in half and stapled together).

Then it was time to glue, glue and glue some more.

Meet our model for the day…Ugg the Baby Chick (named because of her “boot like” feather covered feet)  Isn’t she just the cutest?  Not sure the resemblance is completely accurate, but adorable all the same!

Easter Crafts for Toddlers ~ Paper Plate Chick

We love making simple Easter crafts for toddlers, especially with paper plates.  Instead of creating a traditional paper plate chick, this time the girls wanted to make a princess chick.  They couldn’t resist adding a little bling.  With the addition of a little glitter, a few jewels and a crown, they created an adorable Princess Easter Chick.

The girls added glitter to the wings for a little extra sparkle.  We have found that watering down White Glue with water (50/50) works great for adhering glitter.

The eyes were simple circles punched from white paper and dotted with a sharpie.  Large googly eyes would look great too.

Since the goal was to make a princess chick…a crown was totally necessary.  The girls found a sheet of scrapbooking paper that had a embossed crown, and cut it out.  Next came the jewels.  I love the little “bracelets” they added to the chicks wings.  Adorable.

Easter Activity for Preschoolers ~ Shape Bunny Craft

My kiddos love simple Easter Crafts!  Since Easter is right around the corner, we decided to create a set of shape bunnies.  They are a fun way for young kids working on shape recognition.  Why not create a set of adorable, funny and silly little shape  bunnies!

Exploring shapes with kids can be so much fun.  Plus who said math had to be serious.  We made a similar version for Thanksgiving that was a HUGE hit.  We had so much fun creating simple Shape Turkeys, that we had to make an Easter version.

Armed with a bottle of glue, the kids pieced their adorable shape bunnies together.

There was lots of giggling as these little bunnies took shape.  The kids are used to seeing bunnies created with circles or ovals, but not squares, rectangles, hearts and triangles.

They has so much fun creating their little shape bunnies, although the triangle bunny seemed to receive the most attention.

“Look, I made a mouse-bunny!”  Hahaha  Love it!

Don’t you think hearts make the best animals?  For Valentines Day we created a number of different heart animals. My favorites include this adorable Heart Hedgehog and this sweet little Heart Fish.  Who knew the simple heart was so versatile?  Love it!

We had so much fun with this simple math project.  It was perfect for my preschoolers.  Not only were they exposed to geometry and form (the world of math), but they had fun doing it!
