Tie Dyed Easter Eggs

We are always looking for fun and unique ways to dye Easter Eggs.  We love the simplicity of just dipping eggs in dye, but honestly it can get a little boring after a while.  Over the years, we have experimented with a number of different egg dying techniques.  Check out our dyeing with sharpies, melted crayons, but our FAVORITE is these simple volcano Easter Eggs.  When I saw these fun tie dyed eggs from Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas, I couldn’t wait to try them with the kids.  I love the unique pattern the paper towel leaves behind, it looks just like tie dye.

Tie Dye Materials:

  • Hardboiled eggs
  • Food Coloring
  • Paper Towels
  • Vinegar
  • Paper Plate or Tray ~ to catch all the mess

What To Do:

  1. Dampen your paper towel with vinegar and lay it flat on your paper plate.
  2. Add dots of food color to your wet paper towel.  Since the towel is wet, the colors will bleed and run on the towel.  The kids loved watching the colors travel along their wet paper towel…mixing together.
  3. Place your hardboiled egg in middle of napkin and wrap it so that
napkin touches every part of egg.  Don’t worry if your towel over laps, the most important thing to do is make sure the ENTIRE egg is in contact with the colored paper towel.
  4. Let sit for a few minutes – the longer the eggs stay wrapped up, the brighter the colors!  We left a few of ours for only 5 minutes and they turned out great.  Although we left a few of our to “marinade” for a couple hours and they looked AMAZING.  The colors were deeper and brighter.  It all just depends on how much time you have and patience.

The original post used a dry paper towel and a spray bottle of vinegar.  We found that wetting the towel with vinegar worked better for us, but you should experiment and see what you like best.  We also skipped the step of placing them in baggies.  Mostly because I never have baggies in the house and I didn’t want to buy some just for coloring eggs.  Plus, why make something more complicated than we have to.

This method is basically foolproof and perfect for trying with the kids.  Although, keep in mind that it can get a little messy.  Our fingers were slightly stained with food coloring when we were done, but it was totally worth it!

Heart Chicken

Q:  Which side of a chicken has the most feathers?

A:  The outside!

6 Heart Shaped Animals with FREE printable PDF's ~ Heart Shaped Chicken Valentine crafts for kidsI love how easy this little chicken was to put together.  The hardest part was the 3-D beak (but you could just use a regular heart).  We created the beak by folding the heart in half, then folding the rounded edge into the center.  We also chose to cut the edges of the wing heart, but you could just fold them to the back as well.

A:  Because they can’t catch it!

The alligator face is actually created with a large heart.  Simple cut the top of the heart off right where it begins to curve.  The kids had fun adding all the little alligator teeth.  We liked them bumpy, but would look a little more intimidating with the pointy end out.

Materials Needed to make a Paper Plate Pig:

Cotton Ball Pig ~ Adorable Paper Plate crafts

I am all about using what we have on hand.  Which was white paper plates and white cotton balls.  So instead of going to in search of Pink Cotton Balls and Pink Paper Plates, we decided to paint our own.

While the paper plates dried, the kids painted the cotton balls.  You could glue them first and then paint, either way works.  The kids then squeezed dots of glue onto their plate for the paint covered cotton balls.

I love the little painty fingers!
