Paper Plate Ladybug

An easy ladybug craft for toddlers and preschoolers

We are looking forward to spending hours in our back yard hunting for bugs.  To help hurry along spring, we made these adorable paper plate ladybugs.  There is something about ladybugs that just make me smile.

We always have a stash of paper plates in our art cupboard since they are the perfect base for so many easy kids crafts.  Our Shredded Paper Snowman is one of our old favorites. It’s a super easy craft for toddlers and preschoolers to create.

Paper Ladybug Supplies:

  • Paper Plate cut in half
  • Small circle for the ladybug face

The kids painted the body of the lady bug red and the circle face black.

The kids helped cut black yarn for legs.  No measuring needed.  Our legs are extra long and vary in size, but that what makes these little guys so adorable. The kids taped the yarn legs to the back side of their paper plate ladybug.

With a little help they strung and tied the pony bead feet.

As we eagerly await the arrival of spring, these little ladybugs brighten our walls.

This super simple ladybug craft is one of my favorites.  I love their extra long legs.  The kids loved “flying” their ladybugs around the house, giggling as the legs float through the air.

Spin Art Snowman

Preschool Snowman Art Project

I adore snowmen, especially when they are created by kids.  There is something about haphazardly placed top hats, crooked buttons and extra large carrot noses that make me smile.  Check out how we created our simple spin art snowman.  It was so easy, and the kids love it!

  • Spin art machine ~ if you don’t have one, you can make your own spin art machine or a salad spinner works great too.
  • 3 blue paper circles ~ for the body of the snowman
  • white paint in a squeeze bottle
  • black paint
  • snowman accessories

The kids can’t get enough of our spin art machine.  They love squeezing paint and watching it spin.  You don’t have to spin just tempera paint, try a new medium.  We love using watercolors, glitter glue and markers.

Instead of gluing on eyes and buttons, we decided to use paint.  The kids loved using the sponge brush.

Polly Pocket Snow Fort Play

Indoor winter snow play

The last few days have been chilly, so we decided to revisit one of my first blog posts (bringing the snow inside).  It is one of my kids favorite indoor winter activities.  This time instead of coloring the snow, the kids grabbed the bin of Polly Pockets. Polly Pocket Snow Hut

I’m always amazed by kids imagination.  Nothing like a blank canvas of snow to get them thinking and being creative.

We love building forts all over the house (as I am writing I am sitting beside a colossal blanket fort).   So I was not at all surprised when they created a little snow huts for the Polly Pockets.

How to build an indoor Polly Pocket Snow Fort

The kids have made countless snow forts in our back yard, and they followed the same model to make their indoor huts.  The kids started by mounding the snow, and then hallowing out an area large enough to fit a Polly Pocket bed.  They even rigged up a little shower room, complete with a warm water.

I love the little decorative touches that adorn the top of each of the little huts.

The kids favorite addition to the little snow village was the hot tub.
