50+ Activities All About Apples

Last week I made a post about our Cardboard Apple Trees.  The end of the post contained a wonderful list full of links to apple activities.  After a few friends read the post, they advised me that this wonderful resource might be getting glossed over.  Their number one reason…lack of pictures.  I totally agree, the post was a long and the links were lost.  I am visual and long lists with out pictures are not appealing to me.  So why did I create a post without pictures?  Not really sure maybe I was being lazy:)  Advice taken…50+ Activities All About Apples – take #2!

Mummy Cards

Halloween party invites ~ Mummy Card

Are you looking for really simple Halloween party invites or a fun Halloween card?  Then look no further!  These little Mummy cards are quick to make and turn out looking great.

DIY Mummy Card:

  • Burlap (I had some still left over from the Coffee Sack Art I created a while ago)
  • Spray Adhesive
  • Styrofoam Food Tray – or any hard surface to be used as the backing for your stamp.
  • White Paint
  • Googly Eyes
  • Black and White Paper

Burlap Stamp:

  • Cut 2 strips of Styrofoam and a strip of burlap that are all the same size.  (My strips were 1 1/4″ x 5″)
  • Glue all the layers together, and your stamp is ready to go.

Use your stamp to create “gauzy” strips of white paint across your black paper.  Leave a small “V” that is unstamped for the googly eyes to peek out from, and your Mummy card is complete.

I love how cute these little Mummy cards turned out.  Now I just need to get them all addressed and mailed out.  We are getting excited for our Halloween party in a couple of weeks and these will make the perfect invites.  Stay tuned for more Halloween decorations as we get our house all decorated and ready!

Yarn Pumpkins

Simple Halloween Craft ~ Yarn Pumpkins

Yarn Pumpkins ~ Simple Halloween CraftThese little yarn pumpkins are super easy to make.  I first saw it on Oriental Trading company, but you should also check out these cute Tangled Pumpkins.

Materials to make yarn pumpkins:

  • Orange and green yarn (no need to cut it until you are finished creating your pumpkin)
  • White Glue (watered down slightly)
  •  Wax Paper
  • Pumpkin template (I just drew a simple pumpkin shape, nothing too fancy)
  • Black paper for creating the pumpkin face.

Place your pumpkin template under the wax paper.  You might want to tape the papers down to keep them from slipping around.  Pour the glue mixture into a shallow tray and you are ready to begin,

Roll your yarn around in the glue mixture until it’s fully covered.  Squeeze the excess glue off the yarn with your fingers.

Lay your yarn inside the pumpkin template until the template is filled.  The more the yarn curls and wiggles the better it looks.

Make a tangled stem with green yarn.  Add extra glue to where the two color meet.

Cut simple pumpkin shapes from black paper and squish into the wet glue.  Google eyes would also look cute!  Allow your pumpkin to dry for a couple of days.  You might have to peel the pumpkin off the wax paper and place face down to dry the back side of the pumpkin depending on how thick the glue is.

Hang your cute little yarn pumpkins in your window and enjoy!  I love how happy they make my kitchen feel.

Candy Corn Scarecrow

Fall Craft ~ Candy Corn Gift

Candy Corn is fun fall treat.  I love the each of the white, orange and yellow layers. When it is packaged as a cute candy corn Scarecrow who can resist it!

This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

To make these adorable candy corn scarecrows you will need:

Color your plastic cup with a yellow sharpie.  You could also use a yellow paper cup.  However, I like how the plastic curls and it was what I had on hand.  Trim your cup to the correct size, and cut slits to mimic straw.  Gently curl the edges.  Add a paper band to the hat as a finishing touch.  You could also embellish with flowers if you were making a girl scarecrow.

Glue on button eyes and a paper stitched mouth.  Fill your jar with candy corn and your little candy corn Scarecrow is all finished.

These little Scarecrows would make a great teacher gift or favors for your next party.  I was able to use recycled materials and make what I had on hand work.  All I needed to purchase was the candy.  I love cute project that don’t cost anything to make!

Cardboard Apple Trees

I enjoy going to the apple orchard and wandering through the rows of beautiful trees.  The orchard was our inspiration for this craft. I love working with cardboard.  Not only does it look great painted, but it’s free!  I love when we can reuse something that is intended for the trash or recycling and make it look great! Start with any piece of corrugated cardboard.  We used boxes that came in the mail, and cut the box flaps to the right size.  Next you will need to distress your cardboard.  My kids loved this step.  Peel off the top layer of cardboard to reveal the corrugated inside.  It can take some patience, but totally worth it.  Don’t worry about removing all the paper, this will create the texture and depth to your piece. When you are painting your piece, don’t worry about getting into each groove.  Messy/sloppy painting is best. Build your picture with more pieces of cardboard.  Use the same distressing treatment to each layer.  It can be hard for kids to cut cardboard, but if you remove the top layer of paper first it is much easier.  We just used regular scissors  and it worked great.   I love how they turned out and all the texture!  Once all the layers are dry, glue them together with a hot glue gun.  I have found this to be the best glue to use when working with cardboard, but it might be because I like the instant results.  Depending on your kids age, cold glue guns work great too.  Just be careful! These little pictures make me want to go pick apples!  Hopefully I can find an apple tree on a hill:) Are you looking for the perfect apple craft, recipe or activity?  This is the perfect spot to find it all.  Sit back and enjoy all the fun inspiration…all about apples!
