Minute To Win It #3

Minute to Win it Game ~ Floatacious

Our kids love playing Minute To Win It games.  Tonight we decided to take the kids cup stacking skills to a new level.  Stacking cups can be difficult, but with the added twist of floating them on water upped the challenge.  Floatacious is our new favorite minute to win it game.

I love how cute she looks reaching for the top.

Floatacious Supplies:

  • A plastic plate
  • 5 empty soda cans ~ with the tabs removed
  • A large bowl filled with water right to the top.

Place the plate to the right of bowl, and place the cans to the left of bowl.  When clock starts, the player places plate on water’s surface in the bowl and begins stacking the cans.  To complete game, all 5 soda cans must be stacked on top of plate and remain standing for 3 seconds.  Simple, cheap and fun!  Love it!

Bree was so nervous the stack was going to tumble over before her 3 seconds were up.  (the can tower needs to stay stacked for 3 seconds once you have completed it)

Someone might be a bit over confident:)  Kaleb completed the challenge one handed, eating a dilly bar and under 45 seconds.  Way to go Kaleb!

Ready for Spring!

I am so ready for spring.  I know that it is only March and I live in the Midwest, which means that winter may still be with me for many more weeks! However, I am SO ready for warmer weather!  As most of you know Christmas is my favorite holiday, so it would stand to reason that winter would be my favorite season.  Nope.  Winter is beautiful, but it seems to keep hanging on this year.  Just warming enough to tease me, then snowing once again.

Today it was beautiful outside.  The sun was shining and the ground was starting to get a bit squishy.  The kids were begging to get their bikes down, but that will have to wait for another day.  Instead we spent the day caring for our girls.  These little ladies have a pretty sweet set up.  The coup is heated and they have access to a large outside run.  The minor maintenance of changing the bedding is so worth the yummy eggs they give us!

Marty has a bit of a sweet tooth and LOVES grapes.

The girls loved scratching around in the back yard.  I’m sure they were dreaming of spring too:)

Bree is our own little chicken whisperer.  She can be found cuddling and snuggling the girls any chance she gets.  Chickens might not be a “normal” city pet, but we love our urban girls!

I can’t wait til we start seeing the first signs of spring and I can begin digging in the gardens!  Are you as ready for spring as me and the girls?

Racing Balloon Leprechauns

St. Patrick’s Day Balloon Rockets

I’m sure you have seen all the fun balloon rockets all over Pinterest.  Science Bob has a great tutorial on how and why these little racing balloons work so well.  Since St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, we decided to try Racing Balloon Leprechauns instead of rockets.  We used nylon kite string, wide straws (the kind that are wrapped in paper from restaurants), green electrical tape and some leprechaun coloring sheets printed off the internet.

Balloon Rocket Supplies:

  • Balloon ~ We used 2 different styles and both worked great
  • Disposable Drinking Straw
  • String ~ We used a wax covered string, because that is what we had on hand
  • Tape
  • Leprechaun Coloring Page ~ Optional

How to create your own Balloon Rocket:

The leprechaun coloring pages were cut out and taped to the straw.  The straw was then taped to the deflated balloon.  Make sure to have the “tail” of the balloon facing in the opposite direction that you want your Leprechaun to fly.  As the air is released from the balloon, the Leprechaun will fly down the string.  The kids were so excited to try out their racing leprechauns.

Each of the kids chose a different Leprechaun.  Adorable.

I love the racing leprechauns.  They looked so funny floating through the air.

The regular round balloons worked great.  However the kids wanted to try some special balloons that their grandma sent in a package.  These balloons are hilarious.  It took a bit of patience to blow them up, but it was worth the wait.  The longer shape made the balloons fly faster more like a rocket.

Now that is one fast leprechaun!  Have fun racing your Leprechauns!

St Patricks Day Crafts

Ready for one of the oldest and easiest toddler St Patricks Day Crafts?  I remember creating simple prints with cookie cutters when I was little.  This activity is so easy for little ones to make, plus it is a relatively mess free activity.

Vintage Metal Cookie Cutter

This little shamrock cookie cutter was my moms.  It is one of 4 that have been passed down to me.  I love that it has a handle which makes it incredibly easy for little ones to grip.  These adorable vintage cookie cutters are my favorite.  I would love to add more to my collection someday.

Wooden Chest Transformation

How to Distress Furniture ~ Wooden Chest

Here is a sneak peek at what I am creating over at Inspired Home Style.  I love turning something discarded into something new.  I found this little blanket chest on the side of the road with a free sign.  Score!  I even repurposed the handles for this project.  Small projects like this one are perfect to learn how to distress furniture.

Hop on over to Inspired Home Style to see how we transformed this discarded Wooden Chest.  Im sharing an easy technique for creating gorgeous, aged finishes on basically any wooden surface. To demonstrate, I turned a boring pine box into this rustic beauty
